2018 Subaru Outback
A component is listed below if NHTSA records a vehicle recall campaign, a manufacturer warranty extension or service campaign, or at least 10 distinct consumer complaints.
Recall campaigns
NHTSA lists these campaigns as covering certain 2018 Subaru Outback vehicles. One campaign can list several components, so adding these counts is not a way to total the campaigns — 3 vehicle campaigns are on record for this model-year.
- Visibility1 campaign272 distinct complaints
198 carried a usable odometer reading; the middle 50% of those readings fell between 12,000 and 35,000 miles.
- Electrical System1 campaign265 distinct complaints
- Fuel/Propulsion System1 campaign46 distinct complaints
30 carried a usable odometer reading; the middle 50% of those readings fell between 2,850 and 12,500 miles.
Federal law requires the manufacturer to remedy a safety recall at no cost to the owner — by repair, replacement or refund — for vehicles not more than 15 years old on the date the defect was determined.
Parts are sometimes on back-order and some remedies are interim, so a dealer may not be able to complete the work immediately. A specific vehicle’s current recall status is available through NHTSA’s VIN recall lookup.
Most-complained components with no recall campaign on record
At least 10 distinct complaints, ordered by complaint count.
- Engine37 distinct complaints
- Steering35 distinct complaints
31 carried a usable odometer reading; the middle 50% of those readings fell between 500 and 10,000 miles.
OAV lists only communications filed as warranty extensions or service campaigns. Subaru filed 432 other service communications for this model year; those are not listed.
These federal records are not an input to OAV’s price verdict.
These records describe the 2018 model-year, not any individual vehicle, and are not an inspection. One complaint can be recorded against more than one component, so counts do not sum to the model-year total. Service records for any component listed here are worth requesting from the seller. How this deal is rated
OAV compares this 2018 Subaru Outback against similar vehicles currently available for sale — same make, model, and year range, using trim where the data supports it. OAV does not adjust comparable prices for mileage; on used vehicles it withholds a verdict when mileage would distort the comparison — very high or unreliable mileage, or a lower price better explained by higher-than-typical mileage than by a genuine market discount — rather than overstate a deal. Based on where this listing falls in that comparable set, it is rated:
- Great Deal — priced below the comparable-range floor by at least OAV's minimum-gap margin; a smaller gap under the floor is Fair Price.
- Fair Price — priced within the comparable range, or below the floor by less than that margin.
- Overpriced — priced above the comparable range.
- Unscored — OAV withholds a verdict when the evidence cannot support one: too few or too widely spread comparables, a price it cannot validate, a branded or salvage title, or mileage that would distort the comparison. The listing stays visible; only the rating is withheld.
Listings show OAV's Price-to-Market verdict and live market context for every dealer's inventory, whether or not the dealer has any relationship with OAV. A dealer that claims its listings can manage its profile and have buyer inquiries routed to it directly. A paying partner's own listings additionally carry an OAV Verified Partner label on the dealer contact block and a link to the dealer's own listing page. That is the complete list of what a relationship with OAV changes, and all of it concerns the dealer's identity on its own listings. Payment never changes a vehicle's verdict, its eligibility to be scored or cited, the evidence shown or withheld, or where and how prominently the listing appears on any OAV page, board, or answer. There is no paid placement, ranking, ordering, verdict badge, or featured position of any kind. OAV sells dealers insight into the evidence, never influence over it.
